Pope Francis “stepping out”……

Pope Francis is the undisputed, spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church.  And most of us Catholics respect his moral authority in spiritual matters because few of us have the training or the time to study and contemplate spiritual matters.  For most of us, working and living consume almost all our time whereas for Pope Francis, living IS the study of all things spiritual.  When he speaks of our relationship with God, he speaks with authority.  When he issues an encyclical on a spiritual topic, he is infallible.

For this, I admire him.

However, Pope Francis is NOT a scientist.  And, though he is an expert on God and how we should conduct our spiritual lives, many of us believe that we know as much, if not more, on some issues than he does.

For example, I would say that there are many of us who have a better handle on daily living than he does.  After all, we live IN the world and must deal with earning a living, raising our children, and maintaining our personal relationships with our spouses, family and friends.   Many of us are more familiar with subjects such as sewing, or computers, or sports than he is.  More people understand astronomy or business than he does.  And, there are even more who understand farming or plumbing or carpentry than he does.  He is NOT an expert in many areas of life.

And, because we know more than Pope Francis on some of these subjects, it truly bothers me that there are rumors he intends to write an encyclical, an infallible document, on the subject of global warming.  Although he has company if he believes in this, there are many, many  scientists who disagree with that theory.  And, because the science is NOT settled, despite what President Obama opined, it is dangerous for Pope Francis to write a one-sided opinion and expect Catholics to accept his beliefs when they know them to be false.  While his motives might be good, it is unwise, if not arrogant, for Pope Francis to believe that he knows enough science to dictate what Catholics should believe and how we must act on the issue of global warming.

By positing an erroneous theory as true,  he will lose the aura of authority he now possesses as Pope.  If he tries to insist that all of us believe his theory about a scientific issue like global warming, and a crowd of scientists dispute his theory, the Pope loses even the moral authority that is his due as Pope.  If he maintains that there is global warming and it can be demonstrated that he is wrong, it will be much easier to question whether he is correct about spiritual matters.

In short, by stepping outside the circle of the Church and spiritual issues, he is exposing himself, the Church, and future Popes, to proof that he does NOT know everything. And,  once proven wrong, many Catholics will begin to question his right to expound even on spiritual issues.

There have been other Popes in other times who have tried to force  their flocks in secular areas,  rather than leading them toward God.  In eras when Catholics were illiterate, Popes could easily direct, and even force,  people to act and speak in accordance with Church teachings.  However, in today’s world, where most of us can not only read and write, but think about matters which affect our lives, it is much more difficult for a Pope to insist that he alone knows everything.

So, maybe the Pope should stay “home”, and deal with religious issues, as he was elected to do.  He was not elected King over us.  He was elected Pope, or shepherd.  When he “steps out” into areas where we all have knowledge and some of us are true experts, he is no longer infallible.  He is just another man trying to force his own beliefs upon others.

Bush is turning the sun off again…

http://techland.time.com/2011/06/15/claim-sunspots-to-disappear-global-cooling-may-ensue/

To summerize that article -> The sun may cause a cooling of earth.

See, the problem I have with so called climate scientists is they are so hell bound on blaming humans that they are blind to other influences.  Has global warming happened?  Sure it has if you look at the temperatures over the past century.  Is it caused by humans?  The verdict is still out but I’m going to say that it’s not a direct relation.

The old adage says that you can manipulate any set of data to fit your conclusions.  These so called experts want so badly to blame the human race that they’ll conger up any set of statistics to prove it.  Correlation does not imply causality.  Has the temperature and CO2 particles in our atmosphere increased?  Yes.  However, an elevation in temperature allows our atmosphere to absorb more CO2, so what came first?  The temperature, or the CO2.

Now back to what the article says.  The sun may cause a cooling.  Well gee wiz Mr. Knowledge, are you telling me the sun may have a hand in all this and us puny humans can’t stop what the sun will do.

Bush and his weather machine can.  Or can that only bring about hurricanes?  I forget…

It’s getting hot for Climate Warming Buffs!

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article6999051.ece

Sometimes, a small lie snowballs into an avalanche and the theory of climate warming is a perfect example.  Despite a myriad of scientists disputing the theory, the media relied upon groups like the U.N. who are known to be politically driven.

Scientists who disagreed were suppressed, denigrated, and generally driven out of the conversation.  The multitude of mistakes in Al Gore’s movie were glossed over. The media raised  Michael Moore, the epitome of Hollywood arrogance and sheer ignorance, to expert status on global warming.   It was suggested that we common folk who questioned the theory based on our own experience and living conditions were either right wing nuts, or just too stupid to talk to!

Well, just like any avalanche that clears away debris, the flood of revelations about suppression of evidence, and the fact that the theory about the Himalayan glaciers melting was based on one man’s report — and this man has denied saying this — is clearing the landscape of global warming.  It ‘s going to be uncomfortable for those who refused to scientifically weigh the evidence.  Oh, yes, it’s getting hot for Climate Warming buffs!

The IPCC’s 2007 report, which won it the Nobel Peace Prize, said that the probability of Himalayan glaciers “disappearing by the year 2035 and perhaps sooner is very high”.

But it emerged last week that the forecast was based not on a consensus among climate change experts, but on a media interview with a single Indian glaciologist in 1999.

The IPCC admitted on Thursday that the prediction was “poorly substantiated” in the latest of a series of blows to the panel’s credibility.

Muckrakers

When I was young, we were told that muckrakers were journalists who scraped up muck on people and institutions in order to right wrongs.  If a politician was dirty, the muckraker would expose his faults.  If a business wasn’t following the law, the muckraker would explain exactly what was wrong with their business’ practices.  Muckrakers did a lot of good work in correcting what ailed society.

Today’s muckrakers have a new name and, it isn’t much prettier than muckraker.  It is computer hacker. Few people use it in a complimentary fashion.  But, the good news is that, many times, hackers have exposed a politician’s lies or fraud in government.  And isn’t it a good thing for all of us when corruption is laid bare and then corrected?

Well, maybe it is good for us, but risky for the hackers.  The latest expose is alleged global warming.  Hackers managed to reveal the skulduggery of scientists who promoted the concept of global warming even though they knew their “facts” were unfounded!   The scare tactics of these pseudo scientists included omitting data, fudging numbers, and even suppressing contrary voices… actually, much like Congress is doing in their attempt to foist health care measures upon an unwilling American public.

So now, even knowing that the hackers discovered corruption in the global warming theory community, some want to punish them.  Whether you agree with what the hackers did or not, there is absolutely no way you can deny what the hackers discovered.  And, aren’t we glad that these false prophets of global warming  have been shown to be liars?  Well, it depends.  If you’re on the losing side of the argument, as Barbara Boxer is, you want to punish those who made you look foolish.  It’s the old, “Kill the messenger” attitude that has worked top well for the democrats in the past.  Hence, she chooses to ignore the importance of the hackers’ revelations in favor of trying to punish them for exposing the untruths of global warming.

It sounds as though we should sic’ the hackers on good old Barbara!  Let the muckraking begin.

What’s hiding under the rug?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/georgemonbiot/2009/nov/25/monbiot-climate-leak-crisis-response

Well, if you’re a global warming advocate, like Al Gore, you hope that no more emails showing how his fans hid data that contradicted the global warming theory and even suppressed those who disagreed with it will be discovered.

Unfortunately, the liberal media will undoubtedly just sweep the contradictory information under the rug!

If you want the real facts, go to FOX NEWS.

I’ll tell you what’s heating up…

The models are imperfect.

“There is a lot of room for improvement” in the models.

So you’re telling me that these models are imperfect? I love how these so called experts blatantly lambaste us with evidence of global warming and how the future is bleak, when they can’t even predict the near future correctly. This just shows you how a few nut jobs purveying their ideas in the media can get the mindless lemmings of lieberals believing anything.

Am I glad that people take interest at least in the future? Yes. Am I glad that people ride bike instead of drive, recycle, use CFL’s and other green technologies? Yes. But what I don’t like is when people argue their points when their so called evidence is based on opinion and guess-work models vs cold hard facts.

And, if you ever have to argue with these nutcases, it’s quite comical. They’ll say that you don’t care about the environment or that you don’t care about mother earth. Psssh, that’s total hogwash. I myself pay extra so that the electricity into my home comes from renewable energy*.

There needs to come a time when these lieberals and wacko tree huggers stop using fear, lies and models of the future that appear to be flawed. Why is the UK government using tax money to inform the population about global warming? I think it’s time that the voter decides for himself instead of being led on by our governments. To quote a the movie MIB, “A person is smart, people are stupid.”

-Mr. Knowledge

*Technically the energy isn’t directly into my home. It’s just that WPS has to match to the grid the amount of energy I use.

Mr. Knowledge’s Rants…

I’ve seen this Citi credit card ad for a few weeks now that mentions in this tough economic time, people are looking for ways to save money. Shouldn’t we, in good and bad times, look for ways to save money? These same people who over extended themselves thinking it will always be cherry, are now the ones who are looking for handouts. While others, who know that times won’t always be perfect, don’t over extend themselves and now have to pay for those who did.

Secondly, this whole Limbaugh thing is just crazy. All over in the papers and online they are ripping him left and right, and even using quotes that he never said as truths. It’s fine if you disagree with him, but when ”legit” sources are using false quotes, it just proves that they are against him for his politics, not his implied racism.

Thirdly, read this : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8299079.stm. Where is Algore now?

Arctic Sea Ice Underestimated for Weeks Due to Faulty Sensor

The following article illustrates why Al Gore’s kneejerk reaction to “global warming”  contradicts the facts.  In this case, a faulty sensor misread the ice levels.  Either Mr. Gore can’t read and understand scientific data or, he is an idiot.  I believe that he is a complete buffoon who, through his political position, promoted the Lieberal hatred for anything remotely human , especially if that person is an American!  In their world view, every human activity creates problems for Mother Earth and Americans are the worst of the lot!

He beat the drums of global warming, disregarding respected scientists world wide who say that there is no way to discern if human activity is truly causing climate changes, despite his lack of any scientific credentials.

Oh, yes.  He rode that hobby horse right into fame and fortune.  What a surprise that a Democrat would use any possible issue in order to improve their own fortunes!

By Alex Morales

Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) — A glitch in satellite sensors caused scientists to underestimate the extent of Arctic sea ice by 500,000 square kilometers (193,000 square miles), a California- size area, the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center said.

The error, due to a problem called “sensor drift,” began in early January and caused a slowly growing underestimation of sea ice extent until mid-February. That’s when “puzzled readers” alerted the NSIDC about data showing ice-covered areas as stretches of open ocean, the Boulder, Colorado-based group said on its Web site.

“Sensor drift, although infrequent, does occasionally occur and it is one of the things that we account for during quality- control measures prior to archiving the data,” the center said. “Although we believe that data prior to early January are reliable, we will conduct a full quality check.’’

The extent of Arctic sea ice is seen as a key measure of how rising temperatures are affecting the Earth. The cap retreated in 2007 to its lowest extent ever and last year posted its second- lowest annual minimum at the end of the yearly melt season. The recent error doesn’t change findings that Arctic ice is retreating, the NSIDC said.

The center said real-time data on sea ice is always less reliable than archived numbers because full checks haven’t yet been carried out. Historical data is checked across other sources, it said.

The NSIDC uses Department of Defense satellites to obtain its Arctic sea ice data rather than more accurate National Aeronautics and Space Administration equipment. That’s because the defense satellites have a longer period of historical data, enabling scientists to draw conclusions about long-term ice melt, the center said.

“There is a balance between being as accurate as possible at any given moment and being as consistent as possible through long time-periods,” NSIDC said. “Our main scientific focus is on the long-term changes in Arctic sea ice.”
